A couple of things here. First of all, just wondering if anyone knows the best brand of Grandfather Clock (Sligh, Ridgeway, Howard Miller, etc.)–if they’re all just the same, if you’re getting a used one.

Also, any opinions on the timing of the chiming? (Umm . . .) In other words, is it better to have them chime every 15 minutes or every half hour? Any advantages or disadvantages for either? We know we want one that shuts off at night.
Thanks!

It is 4 horses with a covered wagon clock on wood base. It uses a 15 watt light. The horses and wagon are a medal.

I inherited a grandfather clock from my grandmother. It hasn’t been serviced in about 5-10 years. How much would it cost for it to be cleaned and all that and to have the weights balanced? Also, if you know any particular clock shops, leave the name and address and/or a website. Thank you!

The finish you can see a shine in the back ground but the rest is a dull build up of wax. Can anyone help me out with this. I just had the clock restored to working order but he didn’t clean the outside of it disappointed in that area of restoration.

I have an 18 (!) station time clock made by Hardie, maybe about 12 years old. It is acting up, and I think it needs to be replaced. Is it a difficult job? What do I need to be careful of?
